An energy management system can react correctly to the data it receives and still control the wrong power flow. Reversed current-transformer polarity, crossed phases or an incorrect ratio can make an importing site appear to be exporting, hide part of the load or distort the magnitude used by the dispatch algorithm.<\/p>\n

That error can turn a peak-shaving system into an additional load at the wrong moment. For export control, the consequences depend on the specific design and utility requirements. BESS commissioning should establish a trustworthy measurement chain before automated dispatch is enabled.<\/p>\n

Trace the complete measurement chain<\/h2>\n

Begin at the point of connection and follow the signal through the CT, meter input, local display, communication register and EMS calculation. Record what each stage represents. A plausible current magnitude alone does not prove that the voltage input belongs to the same phase or that the direction of active power is correct.<\/p>\n

Schneider Electric\u2019s CT installation guidance<\/a>, updated in June 2026, explains polarity markings and warns against opening a conventional CT secondary while primary current is flowing. Installation and corrections belong to qualified personnel using the exact equipment instructions and an approved safe work method.<\/p>\n

This article is an acceptance plan for buyers and commissioning leads, not a procedure for moving live CT wiring. Confirm whether the installed devices are conventional current transformers, voltage-output sensors or another transducer type; their handling instructions are not interchangeable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Use a known operating condition before diagnosing a fault<\/h2>\n

Arrange a controlled test condition under the commissioning team\u2019s authority. Determine which sources and loads are active and what direction should appear at the reviewed boundary. If PV, battery discharge and building demand all change while readings are compared, an apparent disagreement may be normal variation rather than a wiring fault.<\/p>\n

Record per-phase voltage, current, active power and power factor where the meter provides them. Then compare local values with the EMS on a common timestamp. An error confined to one phase points the investigation differently from a proportional error affecting every phase.<\/p>\n

Jest to SunSpec Modbus interface<\/a> defines common monitoring and control parameters for distributed energy resources. A standard data model helps integration, but it does not prove that the physical meter is correctly wired or that a specific implementation applies the right scaling and direction conventions.<\/p>\n

Do not compensate for an unexplained physical error by flipping a sign in the EMS. A software workaround may make one operating state look reasonable while breaking another. Correct the root cause, document the change and repeat the affected tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Prove direction in every permitted power-flow mode<\/h2>\n

A factory may import power with the battery idle, reduce import during discharge and increase import during recharge. If export is permitted, another state must be verified. Establish which states are lawful and physically available before writing the commissioning plan.<\/p>\n

Use the Ramy interfejsu BMS, PCS i EMS<\/a> to assign responsibility for the meter value and the command it drives. A test should connect the known operating condition to both the measurement and the resulting dispatch action.<\/p>\n

The utility revenue meter may average or report data differently from the faster local control meter. Compare like with like: measurement interval, included equipment, energy direction and clock. A difference caused by averaging should not be used to justify ignoring a wiring error.<\/p>\n

Failure tests belong in the acceptance record<\/h2>\n

Jest to DOE distributed-energy interconnection checklist<\/a> helps define the utility coordination required for connected equipment. It is a planning reference; the actual site must comply with its local agreement and approved protection scheme.<\/p>\n

Test missing, stale or implausible meter data using an approved method. The EMS should identify data quality and enter the specified fallback state. Retaining the last reading indefinitely may be inappropriate where that reading controls an export limit or a transformer loading constraint.<\/p>\n

For equipment from the HMX C&I storage range<\/a>, request the approved meter model, protocol map, timeout settings and commissioning responsibility in the project scope. Meter compatibility alone does not demonstrate the complete control loop.<\/p>\n

Questions to close before handover<\/h2>\n

Can a sign change fix reversed CTs?<\/h3>\n

Only a qualified review can determine the correct remedy. A software sign change does not resolve crossed phase associations, an incorrect ratio or an installation that violates equipment instructions.<\/p>\n

Is a reasonable total kW reading enough?<\/h3>\n

No. Check the phase data, known operating direction, scaling and boundary. A plausible total may conceal offsetting errors.<\/p>\n

What should the owner receive?<\/h3>\n
